With the help of the internet, people can post any picture or video they want online. Once the post is made, it can back fire and cause a lengthy legal battle. For instance this article talks about if a couple decides to get a divorce and one wants child custody and the judge finds a nude or sex video of one of the parents. The other parent will usually get custody of the child.  Sexting has become a major issue as well.  People who send intimate or naked pictures through texting don’t think about the consequences. The other person receiving the text could easily post that on to the internet and the other person would be put through a lot of shame. People have to be especially careful in today’s digital world.

Online dating is fairly new to the internet. This article talks about, “What if there was a way to Google your self to the one person you have searching for." With online dating that’s virtually what you do. People that use internet dating sites are linked together by the same answers on their questions that they filled out when they signed up. Internet dating seems to be successful, business wise. I have yet to meet a couple that has met through an online dating site. What happened to walking up to a girl and talking to her? I don’t know why so many people are trying out these sites. I guess I can't judge it fairly until I try it out for my self. Through the internet, online dating has proven to be another success, for some.

Internet addiction is a problem on the rise. While there is no medical term for it yet, it poses a lot of risks. Internet addiction can contribute to other medical or sociological issues the individual may already have. Some of the online addictions are online gambling and gaming, especially gaming in kids. Kids are spending way too much time in front of the screen staring blankly into an endless world. People need to know their limit. Take in moderation, anything used too much of can’t lead to good. The article talks about how internet addictions jeopardizing employment, relationships and education. I totally agree. Be careful of your internet dosage, take in moderation.

This was a very interesting article. When I was growing up, my mom, dad, brother, sister, and myself would eat at the table just about every night with no TV during dinner. I do agree with the article when it says”TV helps to avoid each other." But I also think the TV helps us to unwind after a long day and is a way to forget about the days troubles while you watch your evening/recorded show. Now everything the TV does, the internet can do. While some families do spend family time in front of the TV; it’s more like sister texting, brother looking on craigslist on his smart phone and mom and dad actually watching the show. The internet is slowly making its way into family time. Everyone has a choice to make. No one is forcing you to watch TV or to go onto the internet.

Its hard to believe the change in technology over the past 50 years. The civil rights war during the 1960s, that started in Greensboro, North Carolina and worked its way through many of the southern states was a huge accomplishment. All of this was accomplished in about a month with just the telephone, mail, radio, and word of mouth. Today with the help of Twitter through the internet, protest like the one from the 60s could form over night instead of a month. The internet has given activists a way to make their voice heard. I am glad there is such a helpful tool out there, that virtually anyone can use.

The internet has changed the way we think and process information. Our brain is constantly adapting and constantly changing from our internet learning habits. The intenet holds everything we use on a daily basis all wrapped up in one easy to use machine. Our attention never seems to be focused on one thing. Rather, we are always multitasking or waiting for something else to catch our attention. The internet is the biggest influence on our minds. Google thinks that we should all have an artificial intelligence hooked up to our brain so we would have access to all the world’s information at once. I don’t agree with this. The things that separate us from the machines are ethics, common sense, experience, and judgment. Also I don’t like the fact that the internet is always trying to distract us. Its hard to focus on something important when there are blinking adds and pop ups. I think that we might be relying on machines and computers too much. I want to be in control of the way I think and the way I live my life, not a machine.

This article talks about every aspect on how the internet controls our lives .Here is a very interesting quote I liked from the article, "If the automobile and aerospace technology had exploded at the same pace as computer and information technology," says Microsoft, "a new car would cost about $2 and go 600 miles on a thimble of gas. And you could buy a Boeing 747 for the cost of a pizza." It’s hard to image if this was realistically true. This article also talked about: kids and computers, how domain names could make you rich, internet dating, internet auctions, identity theft, online entertainment, downloading music, expert advise, cyber sharing, online education, news, and online wealth. Truly the internet has changed the way we do anything forever.

This article talks about internet advertising and what the best ways are to advertise. I use the internet all time and see advisements everywhere; but do I pay attention to them. No. Also, I would guess the majority of the people who browse the internet are so use to seeing advertisements that they don’t pay attention to them any more. The article refers to this as ‘banner blindness’.  This article talks about different methods they use to try and get the most response out of their advertisements. They are: text-based webpage, text–picture mixed webpage, picture-based webpage, and video-based webpage.

Where I Lived and What I Lived for by Henry David Thoreau

What I got from the reading was; to live life to the fullest, to have only what you need in life in proportion, and not to waste time on unimportant things. A lot of Thoreau's ideas were hard to understand. The language of the writing seemed old, then come to find out, the author was from the 1800s. The flow of the writing made if hard for me to keep interested. But a lot of his topics connected with my blog's topic. On the last paragraph Thoreau had a quote I really liked. “Time is but the stream I go fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away but eternity remains." I think this could relate to the internet and shallow it can be. You can look up anything imaginable and receive thousands of hits on that topic but the information usually isn’t that in depth. Also the internet has a lot of pointless things you can waste your time on, like stupid videos on youtube. A lot of the videos there you could have lived your life without have seen and it wouldn’t have made a difference.  

Classmate's Blog

Here is a link to Stephanie's blog. It is amazing the things we can do on a computer today. Skype is a wonderful way to communicate with friends across the world. I have yet to use it but I hear it is a wonderful tool. It seems new technology is constantly being made to help us enhance our internet experience.

The Machine is Us/ing Us (Final Version)

The video Machine is Us/ing Us by Michael Walsh Sheppard was very interesting. He made many thoughts of how the internet somewhat controls us or how the we control the intenet, by what we post and what we look up. Anyone can make a blog today and rant about whatever they feel like. In one of Michaels examples he explained how “not just text” but videos can be viewed and unloaded by anyone. There isnt really any boundry for the internet. It holds anything you can think of. I think his mention of the machine, is the internet, and both us and the internet control each other.

smart phones

Smart phones have revolutionized the cell phone world. Being able to fit in the palm of your hand, they can be used virtually anywhere in the world to scan the internet, take pictures and communicate with anyone on earth.  Just think, a hundred years ago an idea of this sort was science fiction. Today they are everywhere. The science fiction of the past has become real in today’s world.   

The internet in our cars

Many of the new vehicles that are coming out today, come internet capable with a touch screen monitor. This is very handy for everyday use. From looking up directions, finding a phone number, checking your bank statements, watching a movie; the list is endless. While this is very convenient, it can also be very distracting. Many people try to accomplish all this while driving, which is not a good idea. Many accidents that happen occur while people are multitasking in their vehicle with their internet gadgets and trying to drive at the same time. Be safe, just drive.
